Solar
Next generation
Today we're one of the top three solar manufacturers in the world. We plan to stay that way.
That means using the right technology and the most efficient processes to keep reducing the cost of solar power until it's as cost-effective as traditional power generation.
That takes effort, which is why in the next three years we plan to grow our solar business by at least three times.
So what does that mean for our business?
In Europe:
- We will invest $46mn to add 48 MW of manufacturing capacity and 25 MW of module assembly capacity to our facilities located in Madrid. This increase will be complete by the end of 2006.
In the US:
- We have won a new home bid with Treasure Homes in California, which means that their homes will be fitted with our new BP Solar Integra modules. It's a roof tile and solar panel combined, which help cuts installation costs.
- We're also expanding our partnership with Home Depot. As well as California we will soon be offering our home solutions to the state of New Jersey.
- We have already completed the expansion of solar manufacturing capacity at our Frederick, Maryland site in the US. Capacity now stands at 40 MW.
In Asia:
- We have signed a joint venture agreement with China's largest photovoltaic systems company, SunOasis which will give new customers access to our products.
- We will invest $23mn to increase manufacturing capacity at our site in Bangalore, India, from 27 MW to 43 MW. This new capacity will be commissioned in 2006.
